About us

Akaliko Life Psychology clinic is dedicated to assisting all people across the lifespan to create greater freedom through insight. A life lived in alignment with our own inner values is a life of greater mindful intention and meaning. As we are all unique individuals, we all need a bespoke, personalised therapeutic approach to help us understand and change our less helpful behaviours and thoughts to help us experience greater freedom from difficult and distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. We strive to always:

  • Listen with respect and openness

  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach between therapists and clients.

  • Respect my clients place as active participants in their own mental health journey.

Goals

Together we will seek to clarify your goals of therapy, and how these will be demonstrated in your daily life. There are many paths to the same goal, and in Psychological practice there are many strategies and techniques to bring to bear to assist each person in their unique situation. Mindfulness can be seen as a strategy that stands in contrast to that of avoidance of emotion on the one hand, and of emotional over-engagement on the other hand. Mindfulness can also be viewed as a means to develop self-knowledge and wisdom.

Morrison McQueen

Morrison has an extensive background in mindfulness traditions, Philosophy and Psychology. Commencing training in the Zen and Thai forest (Theravada) traditions from the late 80’s, Morrison completed a B.A in Religious studies and Philosophy at E.C.U while training and teaching Ashtanga Yoga.

Morrison opened The Scarborough Yoga Centre in 1994, teaching Yoga and mindfulness practices, running teacher training programs, workshops, and intensives across Australia and internationally for a further 18 years.

Following an additional 5 year course of university study in Psychology, Morrison commenced practice as a Psychologist working across the private clinical setting at Wisdom Health Psychology specialising in chronic pain, mood and anxiety, substance abuse and supporting clients around living with ADHD and Autism. Morrison has also worked extensively with adolescents in the School Psychology settings since 2013 and is a board approved and registered supervisor of Psychologists.

Morrison brings a wealth of practical and professional experience and insight into his practice of Psychology. From adolescents to adults, Morrison is dedicated to supporting all people throughout their lifespan to create meaningful and value directed changes in their lives.
